Biography

Edward Edwin Bello Pou, better known by his stage name El Cata, is a Dominican singer and songwriter who has made a significant impact on the music industry. Born and raised in Barahona, Dominican Republic, El Cata emerged in the music scene in 1999, and since then, he has been entertaining fans with his unique style of music.

El Cata’s musical journey began with the release of his first album as an independent artist and label in 1999. However, these records are not considered official as they are no longer available. In 2009, he released his official debut studio album, El Malo, which includes some of his most famous singles, such as “Loca Con Su Tiguere,” “Pa’ la Esquinita,” and “El Que Brilla Brilla” Rabiosa, among others.

Aside from his solo work, El Cata has collaborated with many well-known artists in the music industry. In 2009, he recorded a remix of “Loca Con Su Tiguere,” featuring Voltio and Ñejo & Dalmata, and also the remix of “Ella Quiere Coro Conmigo” featuring Yenz. He also shared credits on Pitbull’s smash hit single “I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho)” as a co-writer of the song. In 2010, he collaborated on the remix of “Watagatapitusberry” from Pitbull’s album Armando, which also featured Rapper record-producer Lil Jon, Sensato, and Black Point. El Cata has also worked with Gloria Estefan, Yuri-Mexico, Wyclef J, Kat de Luna, Vakero, Ñejo y Dalmata, Julio Voltio, Secreto EFB, Gente De Zona, Drake, Elvis Crespo, Osmani Garcia, Chacal, Juan Magan, Dylan & Lenny, among others.

One of the highlights of El Cata’s career was when Colombian singer-songwriter Shakira covered his single “Loca” in 2010, in which he also raps. He is also featured on the Spanish version of the track “Rabiosa” from Shakira’s album Sale el Sol. This collaboration helped him gain even more international recognition and fans.

El Cata is considered a pioneer of the genre electro-mambo, which is a fusion of merengue with hip-hop. His unique sound and style have won him fans worldwide, and his repertoire has more than one hundred and thirty (130) songs, where about ten (10) of these are hits that have obtained nominations in the international awards for the industry. He has proven to be a versatile artist who can create music that appeals to a diverse audience.
